Abstract

1,247,893. Feeding sheets. INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORP. 17 Dec., 1968 [26 Dec., 1967], No. 59927/68. Heading B8R. [Also in Division G4] A document transport system comprises a movable transport member provided with a plurality of ports in one surface, the member mounting a valve system for selectively coupling a vacuum source to the ports to attract a document and a control device for the valve system responsive to fluid pressure control signals. Fig. 1 illustrates apparatus in which documents 10 are fed between rollers 11 to a rotary drum 12 having sets of ports 15, 16 which may thus accommodate two documents simultaneously; suction is applied to the drum 12 and a document passes through reading station 17 before being transferred to second drum 13 having similar vacuum ports 15, 16; the documents may pass through a second reading station 18 and is then delivered by rollers 19. Stripping of a document from either drum is achieved by applying air under pressure to the ports. Each drum contains internal valves for selectively connecting air under pressure or suction to the ports and the valves are actuated by timed streams of fluid from stationary external nozzles 24, 25 from a variable cycle control 28. The internal valve circuits include fluid logic devices, Figs. 3 to 6 (not shown).
