Abstract

1,247,776. Current collection installations for vehicles. BRITISH RAILWAYS BOARD. 17 July, 1970 [31 July, 1969], No. 38515/69. Addition to 1,221,184. Heading B7L. [Also in Division G3] The current collection installation disclosed in the parent Specification is further provided with a piston and cylinder assembly 11, 10 for movement of the extensible frame 3 towards or away from the wire 2, the cylinder being fed with fluid controlled by the same valving means and slug which regulate assembly 4, 5, 6 and the arrangement being such that the assembly 11, 10 exerts on the frame a force controlling the extensibility thereof which is proportional to the force exerted by the assembly 4, 5, 6. The assembly 11, 10 compensates not only for the reaction forces of the assembly 4, 5, 6 on the frame but also causes movement of the frame, in extension or contracting, which are equal to those of the contact head 7 with respect to wire 2. Springs A, B and dampers D1, D2 in parallel with the assemblies are arranged such that the forces exerted thereby are of such magnitude that the range of accelerations provided by the assemblies falls within predetermined limits. Should the fluid pressure fail, a further piston and cylinder assembly causes the contact head 7 to engage the wire.
