Abstract
1,146,847. Automatic attitude control. FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF GERMANY, DEFENCE, MINISTER OF. May 4, 1966 [May 11, 1965], No.19723/66. Heading G3R. The attitude of equipment mounted on a vehicle or craft is stabilized about an axis by a servomotor. automatically controlled in dependence on the total torque exerted on the equipment. In Fig. 2, a radar aerial reflector 2 is mounted for rotation about a horizontal axis 3 on a member 4 which is rotatable about a vertical axis on a craft 1. Signals U 6 , U 7 dependent on forces between the craft and member 4 are mutally opposed to produce a signal U 3 representative of the torque exerted on reflector 2 about axis 3 by movements of the craft Signal U 3 is applied through an amplifier 8 to control a revisible AC, DC, or hydraulic servomotor 7b which applies torque to reflector 2 in a direction opposite to that produced by movements of the craft so that the reflector is maintained substantially stationary in space. A signal U 4 dependent on motor torque, measured as a current or a pressure difference, is opposed to signal U 3 to maintain equality between the two opposed torques applied to reflector 2. To select a new attitude, a switch 14 is changed over so that servomotor 7b may be repositioned by a controller 9. Modifications are described in which (a) the servomotor is mounted on the reflector and rotates a mass about axis 3 so that the reaction applies torque to the reflector (b) the torque exerted by the craft on the reflector is detected by accelerometers (c) a similar system is provided for stabilizing the reflector about a vertical axis.
