Abstract
1327526 Braking systems KNORRBREMSE GmbH 19 April 1971 [30 Jan 1970] 20741/71 Heading F2F A piston control device for a fluid pressure braking system comprises a piston 27, a diaphragm 23 arranged to overlie the piston 27 and a grid interposed between the piston 27 and diaphragm 23. The piston 27 is provided with parallel projections 30 which are able to pass through the grid and engage the diaphragm 23 the diaphragm engaging surfaces of the piston and grid being so configured that as the piston moves axially of the device from its position in which maximum penetration of the grid by the projections is achieved the diaphragm is progressively withdrawn from contact with the projections by the grid. The aforesaid surface of the grid may be concave (as shown) or convex with the surface formed by the projections convex (as shown) or concave respectively. As shown the control device is incorporated in a braking force regulating arrangement of a vehicle, the position of the piston relative to the grid being determined by the load on the vehicle. The position 27 is urged to this position by a rack and pinion actuated tubular member 36. Two valve closure members 42, 46 are carried by a shaft and the assembly formed thereby is guided slidably by the tubular member 36. The member 42 co-operates with a seat 43 formed in the member 36, and the member 46 with a seat on the piston to form a self-lapping valve arrangement. The chamber 66 of the regulating arrangement is connected to the driver valve. A connection 35 to a reservoir or driver valve is also provided. A connection 48 leads to the brake cylinders of the braking system.
