Abstract

1,247,523. Method of forming a powder image on a metallic material. RANK XEROX Ltd. (Fuji- Xerox Co Ltd.). Nov.22, 1968, No.55544/68. Heading G2H. A method of forming a powder image comprises forming a layer of electrostatically charged powder containing a photo-conductive substance on a substrate, exposing said layer of powder to a light and shadow image thereby reducing the charge in exposed areas of said layer of powder, and selectively removing said powder from areas of said layer of powder having a reduced charge, characterized in that said layer of powder is formed on a film overlying a metallic layer and having an electric resistance of less than 10<SP>10</SP> ohm per square cm of the surface of the film spaced apart from said metallic layer in the direction of the thickness of the film or on a film such that the electric resistance between said surface and said metallic layer is at no point more than 10<SP>10</SP> ohm. The film may be a corrosion-preventive coating having either an electric reistance of less than 10<SP>10</SP>ohm per cm<SP>2</SP> of surface in the direction of thickness, or an electric resistance greater than 10<SP>10</SP> ohm per cm<SP>2</SP> of surface in the direction of thickness in which case an overcoating permeating into imperfections in said coating is applied whereby the surface electric resistance between said surface and said metallic layer is at no point more than 10<SP>10</SP> ohm. The present invention may be used to mark cutting lines on metal sheets. The powder may comprise transparent particles whose surfaces are coated with a film comprising photo-conductive material which may be zinc oxide. The zinc oxide is preferably dispersed in a binder of silicone resin, alkyd resin or an epoxy resin varnish. The transparent particles preferably have diameters in the range of 20 to 100 microns. U. K. patent Specification 990, 538 is referred to.
