Abstract

1,247,180. Motor cycles. P. W. BOTHWELL. 24 Dec., 1968, No. 61344/68. Heading B7E. The frame 10 of a motor-cycle 11 comprises a first tube 12 disposed between the wheels 13, 14 and accommodating a horizontal engine 30, a second tube 15 secured to the first tube 12 by ribs 19, 20 and having secured thereto a steering head tube 36 carrying a fork assembly 37, and a third tube 16 (which may be omitted) secured partly within the second tube 15 by means of ribs 17, 18 and pivoted at 46 to shook absorber and spring units 45 pivoted to a rear fork 34. A further rib 23 secures the third tube 16 to the first tube 12. An outer skin 48 is secured to the ribs 19, 20, 23. The head tube 36 is secured to front and rear plates 38, 39, and lateral webs 40 secured to the second tube 15 which may be flated at the front. A petrol filler 43 feeds a petrol tank within the third tube 16 and/or is formed as flexible rubber bags within the first tube 12 between the ribs 19 and 20. An air intake 33 feeds the twincylinder two- or four-stroke engine 30. The ribs 19 and 23 each comprise a pair of flanged plates, e.g. 21a, 21b joined by a periperhal band, e.g. 22; alternatively the flanges may overlap each other or the plates may have no flanges and be joined by peripheral channel members engaging their peripheries.
