Abstract
952,771. Air cushion vehicles. VICKERS-ARMSTRONGS Ltd. July 18, 1962 [July 24, 1961; Dec. 22, 1961], Nos. 26726/61 and 4608/61. Heading B7K. An air cushion vehicle is provided with a depending peripheral flexible skirt which comprises a plurality of discrete first members, adjacent first members being effectively joined together by a second member, the arrangement being such that the skirt is continuous round the periphery of the vehicle and that with the skirt in its usual depending position there is an upright fold in the second member between each adjacent pair of first members. In the arrangement of Figs. 1 and 2 each first member 1 comprises two parts 1A, 1B which embrace a continuous flexible sheet 2, which in the normal position of the skirt is formed with a fold 3 between each pair of members 1, the fold being extended when the skirt is deflected, as shown in Fig. 2. In Figs. 3 and 4 the members 1 are of trapezoidal section with the folds 3 in sheet 2 being formed between them as shown in Fig. 3, the deflected form of the skirt being shown in Fig. 4. Various embodiments are described for attaching the skirt to the vehicle. Specification 952,772 is referred to.
