Abstract

1,144,365. Air cushion vehicles. BRITISH HOVERCRAFT CORP. Ltd. 6 June, 1967 [14 June, 1966], No. 26562/66. Heading B7K. A flexible skirt for an air cushion vehicle comprises a plurality of individual contiguous flexible members 10 each formed of a U-section portion 12 of impermeable flexible material provided with an attachment flange 1.5 and wear resistant strips 17 and secured to flexible, preferably extensible, tension members 13 which are attached also to an attachment member 14 which is secured to flange 15 and to the vehicle underbody or to an inflatable upper skirt portion. The tension members allow air to pass from one member 10 to adjoining members, thereby reducing ballooning and excessive pressure between the side faces of adjoining members. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 5, two U-section portions 22 are interconnected by tension members 23. This construction may be used for either an outer or a sub-dividing wall.
