[Also in Division F2] In an electro-pneumatic operating system for the air valves 19, 19a of pneumatic braking systems of a tractive railway vehicle 1 and a wagon vehicle 1a of the type having central buffer couplings carrying main (2, 2a) and service (3, 3a) air lines and electric contact connections 7, each vehicle carries a solenoidoperated air valve 12, 12a connected through a branch air line 2b, 3b for actuation of the piston and cylinder assemblies 11, 11a of the vehicles when a control switch 18 in the cab of the tractive vehicle is actuated. Manual operation of the air valves 19, 19a is achieved by actuation of a transverse rod (not shown) from either side of the vehicle which, in turn, actuates a cam (8, 8a) to close a set of electrical contacts 9, 9a and energize the solenoid operated valves 12, 12a, the valves 19, 19a being controlled by either manual control through the transverse rod (not shown) or by actuation of the piston and cylinder assemblies 11, 11a.
