Abstract

1,247,103. Abrasive device. BREVETEAM S.A. 26 March, 1969 [26 March, 1968], No. 15718/69. Heading C4V. [Also in Division A4] A cleaning device comprises, secured to a porous backing, a sheet material providing a cleaning surface and slit through repeatedly so as to be extensible in at least one direction by opening out of the slits. One embodiment comprises aluminium foil secured by adhesive to a foamed sheet backing. Slits penetrate both the aluminium foil and the foamed sheet. In place of the aluminium foil may be used steel foil, paper, cellulose, non-woven, fibrous material, felts, fabrics, synthetic materials &c., with or without abrasive materials, e.g. a thermoplastic foil having embedded therein materials such as sand, gravel, quartz, corundum, metal powder and shavings, and sawdust. When the cleaning surface is provided by paper or non-woven fibrous material portions thereof may be hardened by coating with epoxide resins, polyesters, or polyamide granules. The slits in the device may be straight or curved and arranged in several different ways.
