Abstract

1,246,556. Casting processes. COMMISSARIAT A L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE. 15 July, 1969 [23 Aug., 1968], No. 35586/69. Heading B3F. [Also in Divisions B1 and F4] In a method of preparing single crystal cast articles, the substance to be cast is melted and is subjected to hydrostatic pressure in a mould 34 closed at its top 38, the mould is immersed in a bath of liquid material 30 kept at a temperature higher than the melting point of the substance, and the mould is raised continuously out of the bath so as to cause a single crystal growth from the top end of the mould. The substance to be cast is melted by induction in a ladle 20 and poured into a mould 34 by tilting the ladle 20. The mould 34 has a number of cavities clustered about a central runner 36 and is immersed in a bath 30 which is heated by induction coils 32. The mould is raised by a lifting head 42. A vacuum vessel 10 with a water-cooled jacket 18 surrounds the casting apparatus.
