Abstract
1, 246,450. E.m. induction flowmeter. UNIVERSAL CONTROL EQUIPMENT Ltd. Dec. 10, 1968 [Dec.13, 1967; Aug.17, 1968], Nos.56732/67 and 39444/68. Heading G1N. An electromagnetic induction flowmeter head includes a mounting disc, 1, which supports a magnetic core, 3, an energizing coil, 5, and an electrode, 7, the disc being arranged, in use, to seal a circular aperture in the wall, 2, of a pipe through which liquid flow is to be measured. A modification, Fig.2, consists in the provision of outer guard pole pieces, 10, so as to reduce the leakage flux intersecting the induced electric field between electrode 7 and earth, which latter may be a section 2a of a pipe wall. A further modification Fig.4 (not shown) includes adaptor pole pieces (12, 13) arranged to reduce the gap between poles so that the head may be applied to a pipe of smaller cross-section than that of Fig. 2. Fig. 3 (not shown) illustrates an E-section core with two electrodes, guard poles being thereby unnecessary. It is stated that a single guard pole may be used and that the or each guard pole may be separately magnetically excited.
