Abstract

1,072,521. Induction flowmeters. MAWDSLEY'S Ltd. Feb. 27, 1964 [March 2, 1963], No. 8446/63. Heading G1N. [Also in Division H2] An electromagnetic flowmeter comprises a tubular yoke 11 (Fig. 1) of mild steel or concrete, laminations 12, coils 13A to 13F, electrodes 14 of non magnetic electrical conducter and flush with the inner surface of a bore 17 through which passes a liquid the flow rate of which is to be measured. Radially inward of the coils is an electrostatic shield 16. The coils, laminations, shield etc. are encapsulated in an insulating medium e.g. concrete, resin, or rubber compound, depending on the liquid to be handled. When the coils are energized a voltage is induced in the flowing liquid, dependent on the rate of flow, and is picked up by the electrodes 14. An alternative arrangement, Fig. 2 comprises an insulating sleeve 22, coils 21 and magnetic laminations 23, within an outer shell 26, intervening battens 25 being provided to facilitate construction.
