Abstract

1,221,963. Induction flowmeters. GEORGE KENT Ltd. March 25, 1969 [March 27, 1968], No.14728/68. Heading G1N. In an electro-magnetic flowmeter head for mounting within a pipeline, a plurality of angularly spaced conductors 16, providing a magnetic field, are embedded in a casing 12 of electrically insulating material, and two electrodes 20 are arranged in a line at right-angles to the magnetic field produced. The cross-sectional areas of the conductors reduce symmetrically away from the plane 18 such that the magnetic field is uniform and parallel and the potential sensed by the electrodes indicates the mean flow speed over the whole crosssectional area of the casing. A tube 22 acts as a core for the conductors and a tube 24 acts as an electrostatic screen. The head may be secured in the pipeline by a flange 28, which may be mounted at one end of the casing, Fig. 3 (not shown). Leads 26 to the conductors and electrodes are taken through this flange 28. Alternatively, screws may be provided in holes in the casing for frictional engagement with the inner wall of the pipeline, in which case the leads 26 may be taken through a grummet in an aperture in the pipeline.
