Abstract

774,739. Demagnetizing. SIMON-CARVES, Ltd. Feb. 14, 1956 [Feb. 28, 1955], No. 5841/55. Class 35. Finely divided magnetic material suspended in water is demagnetized by passing it through an alternating field of gradually diminishing strength. As shown, the liquid is passed through a non-magnetic, high-resistance tube 1 traversed by flux from laminated poles 8 energized by coils 3. The laminations are divided into groups of progressively smaller size by non- magnetic layers 9, so that the flux gets weaker and weaker in the direction of flow. Modifications are described in which the poles diverge from the tube or are tapered. The coils may be oil-cooled.
