Abstract

1,246,114. Substituted thiazoles. AGFAGEVAERT. 27 Nov., 1968 [5 Jan., 1968], No. 854/68. Heading C2C. [Also in Division G2] Colour couplers of the general formula where X is hydrogen, halogen or -SR where R is alkyl, substituted alkyl, aryl or substituted aryl, D is a C 5-20 acyclic aliphatic hydrocarbon residue, R 1 is hydrogen, alkyl, alkoxy, halogen, dialkyl-amino or sulphamoyl, and Z represents the atoms necessary to close a nucleus of the thiazole series, are prepared by reacting an appropriately substituted benzoic acid with thionyl chloride, reacting the resulting benzoyl chloride derivative with the sodium salt of an acetyl acetic acid ester in dichloromethane, reacting the resulting benzoyl-acetyl acetic acid ester with sodium methoxide in methanol, and reacting the resulting benzoyl-acetic acid ester with an appropriate amino-thiazole. 2 - Amino - 4 - (m - fluorosulphonyl - phenyl)- thiazole is prepared by reacting m-chlorosulphonyl-benzoic acid with potassium fluoride in aqueous dioxan, reacting the resulting mfluoroselphonyl-benzoic acid with thionyl chloride, converting the resulting m-fluoro-sulphonylbenzoyl chloride to m-fluorosulphonyl-acetophenone which is then brominated, and reacting the resulting m-fluro-sulphonyl phenacyl bromide with thiourea in ethanol, followed by neutralization.
