Abstract

The invention comprises benzoyl acetamide derivatives of the formula <FORM:0873125/IV (b)/1> wherein R represents an alkyl group containing a linear chain of at least 10 carbon atoms (e.g. dodecyl, hexadecyl or octadecyl) or a substituted alkyl group in which the substituent contains an alkyl radical of at least 8 carbon atoms (e.g. a para-isooctylphenoxyethyl group), and Y represents a heterocyclic radical of the furan, thiophen, thiazole, oxazole, imidazole, 1:3:4-thiadiazole, 1:3:4-oxadiazole, 1:2:4-triazole, pyridine, quinoline, diazine or 1:3:5-triazine series. The above compounds and other compounds in which Y is a heterocyclic radical in general may be prepared by condensing an appropriate alkoxybenzoyl acetic acid alkyl ester with an aminosubstituted heterocyclic compound. The heterocyclic substituent Y may contain substituents such as carboxyl, carbomethoxy, carbethoxy, hydroxy, nitro, amino, acylamino, phenyl and/or methyl groups.
