Abstract

1,245,903. Yarn clamping. ELECTROSPIN CORP. 16 Jan., 1970 [17 Jan., 1969], No. 2140/ 70. Heading D1D. [Also in Division E2] A radially clamping grip, e.g. for yarn in an open end spinning machine, which enables an object being gripped to slide lengthwise comprises a body 2 with a passage 3 having a conical inlet 4 and a gripping arrangement which consists of flexible filaments 7a, &c. each have an arched portion 8a and a straight portion, regularly distributed about passage 3 so that the arched portions form a funnel and the straight portions a bundle. The body is formed with meridian slots 5a &c. beneath the conical inlet 4 with at least part of the arched portion 8a of each filament in a slot so that each filament is radially guided. The upper end of each filament is embedded in the body 2 at a point lying in the plane of the associated slot. More than one filament may be provided in each slot to provide a greater gripping force. The same number of filaments may be provided in each slot or the number may vary from slot to slot the centre of the gripping force still being kept on the axis of passage 3.
