Abstract
1,245,841. Delivering sheets. XEROX CORP. 23 Jan., 1969 [24 Jan., 1968], No. 3836/69. Heading B8R. Sheets are stacked selectively in trays 24, Figs. 1 and 5, sloping upwardly from the entrance, so that sheets guided upwardly into a tray slides back against a wall 95 of a document guide 74. The trays also slope sideways and each have a side wall against which the documents come to rest, so that the trailing edges and one of the side edges are aligned. The trays may be arranged in a primary module 12 and one or more secondery modules 14. The sheets are delivered from a handling-machine by belts 36 to first deflectors which when lowered pass a sheet directly into the tray 24<SP>11</SP> and when raised pass it to an intermediate conveyer 54 and to deflectors 73. When the deflectors 73 are lowered, sheets pass to a conveyer 22 and to the module 14, or by afurther conveyer 22 to a further module. If the deflectors 73 are raised, the sheet moves upwardly past a series of deflectors 80, one for each tray. When a deflector 80 is operative, the next sheet passes into the corresponding tray. If no deflector 80 is operative, a stationary member 80<SP>1</SP> directs the sheet into the tray 24<SP>11</SP>. The first deflectors and the deflectors 73, 80 are controlled by a programmer through solenoids. Each module is provided with deflectors 80, and each module except the last with deflectors 73.
