Abstract

1,233,873. Delivering sheets. R. V. DUFOUR. 25 Feb., 1970 [28 Feb., 1969], No. 9103/70. Heading B8R. Newspapers &c. 15 delivered in overlapping formation on a conveyer 16 are directed selectively to opposite sides of receiving station 13 by conveyer belt arrangements 65 or 20. The arrangement 20 is provided with a first section 18 in which twisted belts 21 and 22 invert the newspapers so that when they are discharged at station 13 they will be in their original orientation. The arrangement 20 is driven at a higher speed than the arrangement 65 to compensate for the larger transport path. Discharge conveyer belts 34/35 and 70/71 are driven at a greater speed than the remainder of the associated belt arrangements. A switch 17, operated by a photo-electric counting device directs predetermined numbers of newspapers to each of the belt arrangements to ensure the stack at 13 is evenly built up. The receiving platform at station 13 may be a normally stationary endless belt 81 which is energized upon completion of a stack to transport the stack by a conveyer 80 to a receiving table 92. The station 13 may be provided with a back plate 56, a side plate 55 and a deflecting plate 57 to prevent newspapers overshooting the stack. The receiving platform may be normally tilted towards one corner to align the stack and alignment may be assisted by a jogging mechanism. In a further embodiment (Fig. 12, not shown), the receiving platform is constituted by two vertically spaced conveyers which discharge on to a common receiving table the conveyer arrangement 65 feeding one, and the conveyer arrangement 20 the other, of the spaced conveyers.
