Abstract

1,244,338. Seaming non-metallic sheet material. SWISS ALUMINIUM Ltd. 20 Nov., 1968 [22 Nov., 1967], No. 55085/68. Heading B5K. [Also in Division B8] A thermoplastic coated metal foil package having a tear tab, is closed by heat sealing, e.g. by a heated die, a layer of polyethylene to a layer of polypropylene. The coatings themselves may be of polypropylene and polyethylene or they may be of the same material, in which case a strip of the other material, or a metal foil strip coated with the other material, is located between the coatings. As shown, the package comprises polyethylene lined aluminium sheets 11, 12 welded to form a seam 13. A strip 14 of polypropylene or polypropylene coated aluminium foil is welded into the seam 13 along one edge or at one corner only if a limited opening is to be formed. The strip 14 may project beyond the seam 13 to replace tear tabs 15. In a modification, Figs. 1-3 (not shown), the package takes the form of a container body and lid having a tear handle and an annular sealing area.
