Abstract

1397915 Opening containers A R RAUSING 14 Sept 1973 [18 Oct 1972] 43237/73 Heading B8D A pouring opening 5 in a metal, e.g. sheet steel, end wall 4 of a container for beer or other liquids comprising a plastics lining 2 and a supporting cardboard sleeve 3, is closed by outer and inner strips 6 and 10 sealed to opposite faces of the end and to one another through the opening, the outer strip being sealed to the outer face along two zones 7 spaced from opposite edges of the opening and being provided with parallel lines of weakening 8, e.g. scores or perforations, inboard of the zones such that, on pulling of a tab portion 14, the outer strip tears along the weakening lines and a portion 10, Fig. 3 (not shown), of the inner strip is torn free therewith to expose the opening. The outer strip may be additionally sealed to the end wall along a transverse zone 9 and provided with an adhesive coating to facilitate temporary reclosure. The strips, which may be of aluminium foil, are secured together by glue or a hot melt adhesive, or by fusion of thermoplastics coatings thereon.
