Abstract

1,244,170. Desks. A. ARENSON Ltd. 27 Sept., 1968 [23 April, 1968], No. 19245/68. Heading A4H. A desk comprises front and rear frames supporting a top 1 and a pedestal 24 attached to the frames but not to the top. The front frame comprises legs 7, 7<SP>1</SP> and a top channel-sectioned rail 8 which is secured to a beechwood batten 2 on the under-surface of the top 1 by screws 5 passed through keyhole slots 13 in the rail. The rear frame comprises two legs 15, a lower rail 16 and an upper rail 14 of square section having an elongate slot 18, Fig. 7, which retains the upper edge of a backing board 20. The upper rail 14 has holes for the entry of short battens 3 secured to the top 1 and is secured by screws 22 passed through aligned bores 17 in the rail and through the battens 3. The tips of the screws 22 enter synthetic resin spigots 34 fixed in the rear wall of the pedestal. The pedestal contains sliding drawers 25 and is located by locating plates 29 on its rear wall engaging slots (23) in the lower rail 16 of the rear frame. A pair of metal shoes (39), 40, Fig. 9, are secured to the front of the pedestal by screws 46 and to the top rail 8 of the front frame by plates 51 and bolts 55. The front leg 7<SP>1</SP> is secured by a bolt (50) to the metal shoe (39). A tie rod 61, Fig. 5, passes through the lower end of the pedestal and is threaded into a socket 63 in the front leg 7<SP>1</SP>. A wooden strut 56, Fig. 5, extends between the other front leg 7 and the rear leg 15 and is secured by bolts 60 threaded into metal blocks (58, Fig. 6) in the ends of the strut. A further pedestal may be fitted at the other end of the desk.
