Abstract
1,244,123. Corrosion inhibiting. NALCO CHEMICAL CO. June 26, 1969 [July 31, 1968], No.32478/69. Heading C7E. A corrosion-inhibiting composition comprises 10-70 parts (by weight) of a water-dispersible tannin compound, 5-50 parts of HCN modified lignosulphonates or HCN modified naphthalene sulphonates or mixtures thereof, and 10-60 parts of a masking agent which comprises a watersoluble inorganic metal salt containing a multivalent metal ion of Zn, Al, Cd, Co, Ni or Mn, the masking agent serving to retard the chelating action of the two first-mentioned components. The tannin compound may be a natural tannin modified by reaction with Na or K sulphite, bisulphite, haloacetate, halopropionate, halobutyrate, cyanide, or thiocyanate or ammonium sulphite, bisulphite, cyanide, or thiocyanate or HNO 3 or H 2 SO 4 . 10- 500 ppm of the composition in an aqueous system inhibits corrosion and scaling of Fe in contact therewith, and where desired the water may also have added to it 2-mercaptothiazole, 2-mercapto benzothiazole, 2-mercapto benzoxazole, 2-mercapto benzimidazole, or a salt thereof, or NaCrO 4 , Na 2 Cr 2 O 7 , ortho- or poly-phosphates or the Na salt of ethylene-maleic anhydride copolymer.
