Abstract

1,243,700. Ladders. MAYFAIR ENG. CO. 7 Oct., 1969 [24 Oct., 1968], No. 49307/69. Heading E1S. A aboat's ladder has a pair of stabilising rods, 66 or 112, pivotally attached one to each stile near the top thereof and either detachably attached at the other end to a mounting plate, e.g. 20, fixed to the boat (Figs. 1 and 7) or resting against a pair of flexible straps 108, each attached at one end to a stile and releasably attached at the other end to the boat via a buckle 102, (Fig. 9). In the embodiments of Figs. 1, 7, a similar flexible strap 44 is provided to take the weight of the user, the straps being connected to the boat via the ends of the stabilisers 66. These latter stabilisers have pivoting U-brackets 54 at the ends to which the straps are each attached via a serrated washer 58 (Fig. 4) held in position by a nut 56 on a double-headed bolt 50 which engages in a keyhole slot 76B leading into the hollow interior of plate 20. The bolt 50 is retained in the narrow portion of the slot by a slidable plastics retainer 82. The ladder also has lower pivoted stays 32 with resilient end caps 36. The ladder has pivotally supported rungs to allow for lateral folding of the ladder.
