Abstract

1501945 Fall arrestor for climbing ladders POST OFFICE 8 Oct 1976 [5 Nov 1975] 45966/75 Heading A6M A fall arrestor device for use in climbing ladders &c comprises a hook-ended member for engaging over a hand hold and having grip means interjacent the hook-end and an arrestor strap coupling point. As shown the member has an open frame configuration, two side rails 3 and 4 being interconnected by cross-rails 7 and 8. The rails 3 and 4 are bent at 5 to form the hook end and a hand grip 9 is connected between the rails 3 and 4. An arrestor strap 10 is attached to the cross rail 8, the other end of strap 10 being securable to a body harness of a climber. In a second embodiment (Fig. 3 not shown) a spring biassed safety latch is provided for forming a closed loop with the hook member for locking on to the hand hold. In a further embodiment (Figs. 4 and 5, not shown) the hand grip is replaced by a pair of material pieces extending between the side rails to yieldingly retain a climber's hand so that the latter can also grip the hand hold.
