Abstract

1,243,084. Paper-making machine. BELOIT CORP. 3 Oct., 1968 [2 Nov., 1967], No. 47018/ 68. Heading D2A. A paper-making machine comprises a first wire 11 passing over a breast roll 14, a second wire 21 held near to, and at first in converging relation, and later parallel relation to the first by a convex non-circularly shaped stationary surface 38, the two wires then passing together over the top down-running quadrant of a suction roll 15, having a suction gland co-extensive with the peripheral portion engaging the wires. The convex, stationary surface may be water-permeable, and may be defined by a plurality of longitudinally spaced, transverse belt-contacting thin edges, the locus of the edges defining the curve. The second wire is separated by roll 22, and the web picked off by suction roll 50 wrapped by felt F. A foil 36 may act on the underside of the first wire. Rolls 15, 12 and 22 may be synchronously driven by drives Ml, M2. Savealls 15g, 22x, 36c and doctor 14a may be provided. The wire loops may be tensioned by movable rolls 13a, 23a, and head box 40 may be adjustable (as shown by the arrows) in position. The wires may be of plastics. In use "incipient webs" form on each wire, and these become a single web on passing down the forming zone.
