Abstract
1,242,366. Feeding sludge &c. on to a conveyer belt. VEREINIGTE OSTERREICHISCHE EISEN-UND STAHLWERKE A.G. 23 April, 1970 [6 Aug., 1969], No. 19437/70. Heading B8A. In apparatus for discharging iron oxidecontaining sludge or other pasty compositions from a container 1 by means of a conveyer belt 12, which is disposed under a discharge pipe 3, a tubular member 5 is telescoped around the discharge pipe 3 and is slidable relative thereto and in response to a lowering of the level to which the container is filled, is adjustable to increase the height H of the discharge gap between the lower rim of the tubular member 5 and the surface of the belt conveyer 12. The latter is provided, with drive means which are infinitely controllable at 15 in dependence on the weight measured by a belt weigher 16. A device 18 detects the height of the sludge in the container 1 and suitably controls the pressure of a jack 8 connected to the member 5. The latter is thus automatically controllable in response to the level to which the container is filled. The lower rim of the adjustable tubular member is defined by a rubber ring or the like. The inside diameter of the discharge pipe and of the tubular member is 250-1000 millimetres, preferably 400-500 millimetres. The height H of the gap varies between 5-10 mm. when the container is filled to a height of 4-5 metres metres, and 50 mm. when the container is filled to a height of 0À5 metres or less.
