Abstract

1,242,086. Screening apparatus. ETABS E. & M. LAMORT FILS. 30 July, 1968 [2 Aug., 1967], No. 36407/68. Heading B1D. A paper pulp-screening apparatus involving a cylindrical, perforate or slotted, metal screen 2 which is kept clean by one or more moving blades 1, which create pulsations on the upstream or downstream side of the screen, comprises elongated obstructions, consisting either of bars 5 or recesses in the screen surface adjacent the blades, which extend parallel or slightly obliquely to the blades across the screen. The obstructions inhibit screen clogging, by reducing the flow rate of liquid parallel to the screen and induced by the blades. The slots in screen 2 may extend parallel to the blades or perpendicular thereto. In either case the obstructions are located adjacent the downstream ends or edges of the slots, from the blade movement point of view (Figs. 4, 6, not shown) or between groups of slots (Fig. 5). Obstructions may extend the whole height of the screen or be short and staggered. Bars 5 may have sharp edges 5a which co-operate with blades 1 to cut large fibres.
