[Also in Division E2] A warp-knitting machine for knitting sliding clasp fastener stringers comprises a trickplate 10 in which a row of knitting needles 11 is mounted and yarn guides 13 controlled in known manner to feed yarn 14 for knitting into a carrier tape 15. A series of coupling elements 18 is fed through a guide 16 to a position adjacent the edge of tape 15. A sewing needle 19 is mounted in a slide 20 which reciprocates in a slideway 20 and is arranged to reciprocate twice between adjacent elements 18. During one cycle of the needle 19, it moves to the rear of the machine in between two yarns 14 and on its return its hook 22 engages a yarn 14a and draws a loop 23 between elements 18 and through a previously foamed loop 24. The knitted tape 15 is then fed through one course and on the next rearward movement of the needle 19 the loop 23 is carried by the needle 19 and a newly formed loop is drawn through it on forward movement of the needle 19 so that on each reciprocation of the needle 19 a loop of yarn is interlinked with a previously formed loop, the yarn being knitted into the tape 15. In a second embodiment two yarns (14a) (14b), Fig. 5 (not shown) are interlinked about the filaments of the elements by reciprocating the needle 19 in a horizontal arcuate path as well as reciprocation along its longitudinal axis.
