Abstract

1,268,630. Stitch bonded fabrics. COSMOPOLITAN TEXTILE CO. Ltd. 10 Oct., 1969 [19 Oct., 1968], No. 49695/68. Heading D1R. A stitch bonded fabric is produced by progressively advancing a fleece 10 through a sewing knitting machine comprising a set of needles 11 with hooks 14 which are reciprocated to penetrate the fleece 10. A rod 13 is slidable in a groove 12 in each needle and penetrates the fleece with the needle but is halted before it reaches the opposite face of the fleece. The needles 11 are halted before their greatest thickness has penetrated through. the fleece. Threads 29 from guides 26 are passed over the hooks 14 and the needles are retracted to have their hooks closed by the wires 13. The threads are thus drawn through the fleece in the form of loops and bundles of fibres are collected from the face of the fleece in the hooks. After retraction of the needles from the fleece and moving the fleece downwards the needles are again inserted so as to cause the loops of threads and fibres to interengage on the shanks of the needles and the cycle is repeated to produce the stitchbonded fabric.
