1,241,073. Gear-cutting. CARL HURTH MASCHINENUND ZAHNRADFABRIK. 6 Oct., 1969 [16 Oct., 1968], No. 49031/69. Heading B3K. A gear hobbing machine having an angularly adjustable support 17 for a tool spindle 16, the support 17 being slidable in the direction of the work spindle 14, has a common drive motor 18 for the tool and work spindles 16, 14 and a drive transmission connection between the tool and work spindles which includes a clutch 32 which is operable during running of the machine. The clutch may be a friction or positive engagement clutch or of combined friction and positive engagement type and is preferably located coaxially with one of the index change gears. The provision of the clutch permits drive to the tool to be continued during removal and replacement of the workpiece.
