Abstract
868,016. Rolling gear wheels. DAIMLERBENZ A.G. Sept. 26, 1958 [Sept. 27, 1957], No. 30895/58: Class 83 (4). An unhardened gearwheel 2 or the like has burrs removed and/or bevels produced on at least one side edge of its teeth by rolling the edge with a hardened toothed tool 15. The latter may be a bevel gear, spur gear mounted on an inclined axis, Fig. 1 (not shown), or a toothed rack, Fig. 2 (not shown). Either the workpiece and tool may be driven and two tools may be used to work both edges simultaneously. Ridges produced by the tool may be removed by turning tools 16' or by grinding. The invention is applicable to both internal and external gears and also to bevel gears and helical spur gears. It may be carried out on a gear cutting machine or as part of a continuous manufacturing process, Figs. 5, 6 (not shown).
