Abstract

818,135. Gear - finishing. NATIONAL BROACH & MACHINE CO. Feb. 12, 1958 [April 22, 1957], No. 4581/58. Class 83 (3). A gear-tooth chamfering-tool comprises a pair of relatively-adjustable circular, toothed, guidebodies 20, 30 and a circular chamfering cutter body 40 coaxial with the guide-bodies and having cutting-portions aligned with the toothspaces of the guide-bodies. The tool is engaged in tight mesh with the work to chamfer the top edges of the teeth. The cutting-edges on V- grooves 44 in the tool may be aligned if the operation is carried out with crossed axes, but not if the work and tool axes are parallel. Screws 54 engaged in tapped holes in the body portions abut inclined recesses 49 in the cutter body to permit the relative adjustment of the guide bodies, which enables the amount of chamfer on opposite edges of the gear teeth to be individually controlled.
