A device for correcting tooth faults in a gear comprises individual drives for rotating the gear and a pinion-shaped tool, means for coupline the drives and means to allow for mutual adjustment of the drives to obtain any desired clearance between the teeth of the tool and gear, one of the drives including a creep gear. When machining the gear 2, the tool is first set to run in mesh with the gear, but without tooth contact. The tool is then turned relatively to the gear by a lever 7. The tool may be a pinion used with an abrasive, or a shaving, grinding or electro-erosion device.
