Abstract

841,183. Milling-cutters; making cutting- tools. SIMMONDS AEROCESSORIES Ltd. March 6, 1959 [March 10, 1958; July 31, 1958], Nos. 7601/58 and 24702/58. Classes 83 (2) and 83 (3). A rotary cutting or abrading tool comprises a convex metal disc having an annulus A of hardened teeth 3, and a central portion 1 adapted for connection to a spindle, a chord C to the annulus A being at 88-75 degrees to the axis of the disc. The teeth 3 are formed as in Specification 839,401, with zero or positive-rake, and dimples &c. may be provided, as in Specification 836,051, to control the depth-of-cut. The disc is rotated about a fixed axis between tooth-forming punching operations. Alternatively, the teeth may be formed as in Specification 836,242 or 836,051, with or without the depth-of-cut control. A peripheral rim (Fig. 3, not shown), may be formed on the disc. In Fig. 5, the disc 20 is shown spot-welded to a drum 21 formed of the cutting-strip described in Specification 695,830. A backing-ring or strip 32 is welded to a flange 24 on the drum, which is hardened after attachment to the disc. The drum may be formed from the cutting-strips described in Specifications 836,051, 836,242 and 839,401. Specifications 666,573, 666,622 and 772,738 also are referred to.
