Abstract

1,240,551. Boat power transmission unit. MANGOLETSI (HOLDINGS) Ltd., and G. A. MANGOLETSI. 28 April, 1969 [31 Jan., 1968], No. 4898/68. Heading B7V. A boat power transmission unit comprises a casing 2 with a driving shaft 3 coupled to the boat engine and a driven shaft 6 carrying the propeller 13, and a flat, toothed belt 27 running on pulleys 5 and 8 on the shafts. Both shafts are supported by pre-lubricated ball bearings 4 and 7, the driving shaft bearings 4 being carried by eccentric housings 9 to enable adjustment of the belt tension. A water seal 12 is provided on shaft 6. In Fig. 2 (not shown), the unit is stern-mounted and pivoted about a horizontal axis; vertical pivoting also may be provided for steering. In Fig. 4 (not shown), the unit passes through the bottom of the boat and abuts the rear end of the keel or skeg. In Fig. 6 (not shown), the engine is mounted on the unit, drive from the engine shaft to driving shaft 3 being by toothed belt and pulleys. The casing may be stream-lined and provided with a fin.
