Abstract

124,035. Loudenbeck, H. C. March 11, 1918. Cupping. - In making piston packing of cup-leather type, disks of fabric and ground cork mixed with adhesive are coated with glue and compressed between the parts 3, 4 of a mould by means of a press. The packing is then cupped by the descent of an external ring 5. While still under pressure the part 5 is secured by studs 8, and the parts 3, 4 are secured together by a bolt 7. The mould is then removed and heated, the glue being preferably one which becomes insoluble under the action of heat.
