Abstract
1,240,124. Spray producers. ASSOCIATED ENG., Ltd. 29 Nov., 1968 [1 Dec., 1967], No. 54785/67. Heading B2F. [Also in Divisions H3 and H5] A plasma spray gun comprises a connection unit 1 having first coupling members for connection both to material which is to be fed to the gun and sprayed and to operating services for the gun, an electrode assembly 2 having two spaced electrodes 3, 4 and second coupling members for connecting the materials and services from the unit to the electrode assembly, the electrode assembly being connectable to and detachable from the unit wherein upon the connection of the assembly to the connection unit connections for the material and the services are made to the assembly. The assembly may be connected to the unit by quick release devices e.g. plug in connections, and electrical connections to the assembly may be made by the walls of pipes 7 supplying cooling fluid thereto. The electrode assembly may be carried by an extension arm detachably connected to the unit, and the axis of the gas plasma may be inclined to that of the arm at an angle which is adjustable, the connections including flexible connections. The electrodes are preferably relatively adjustable by screw 10. Powders entrained in a gas stream may be fed by pipe 8 and arc gas by pipe 9. The powders may fed from magazines 13 and 14 in plastic tubes 12 by variable speed electric motors in motor assembly 22, the tubes 12 being slit and deposited in magazine 24 after the powder has been conveyed to the arc.
