Abstract
1,240,050. Cathode materials and processing. SIEMENS A.G. 9 Dec., 1969 [10 Dec., 1968], No. 59913/69. Addition to 1,143,865. Heading H1D. In a modification of the manufacture of a dispenser cathode as disclosed in Specification 1,143,865, in which a layer of osmium is deposited on a porous tungsten carrier plate by chemical deposition from a solution of a compound of osmium, e.g. OsO 4 , followed by reduction and sintering-on of the deposited material in a hydrogen atmosphere, the reduced osmium layer on the tungsten plate is annealed at 1200‹ Œ 200‹ C. for a time sufficient to ensure conversion of the osmium layer to an alloy containing 70 atom per cent osmium and 30 atom per cent tungsten. A freshly reduced tungsten plate may have a minimum quantity of 1À0 mg. Os for a 500 mg. tungsten plate and the diffusion annealing may last for 15 to 60 minutes.
