Abstract
1,239,926. Centrifugal-casting machines. HEPWORTH & GRANDAGE Ltd. 24 Oct., 1968 [30 Oct., 1967], No. 49244/67. Heading B3F. At least two C.I. dies 24, 25 are loosely cradled in aligned apertures 23 of carrier plates 21, 22 mounted on a shaft 16 which can be partrotated by a unit 19 to swing a die between a casting station having a tipping ladle 31 with an insertable spout 32 and a motor 29 for spinning the die) to an ejection station (having an ejector head 34, with cleaning-air outlets 38, reciprocated by an actuator 35, and a casting-receiving platform 37). If the machine (shown herein plan) has sufficient apertures 23 to hold more than two dies, there may be cooling stations between the two stations described and the pouring and spinning may be effected at separate stations. The shaft 16 carrying the dies 24, 25 is first moved to the right by a cylinder unit 20 so that one end of the die 24 extends around a rotatably mounted but axially-fixed coned ring 28a. A ram 30 then moves the spinning-motor 29, a coned ring 27a and the die 24 to the right so that the die is lifted and clamped between the rings. This movement, after a ¢ second delay, causes the spinning to start and the operator can then dress the mould and insert the melt spout 32. A timer stops the spinning after solidification and the ram 30 and unit 20 retract to allow the die to rest down in the apertures 23. The subsequent swing to the ejection station cannot proceed unless the casting has freed itself from the coned ring 28, as detected by an air emitter 33A and receiver 33B. The rings 27a, 28a are chromium-plated where they contact the melt, and are spacedly mounted (to reduce heatconduction) on plates 26c, 28c but can be replaced, together with the dies and aperture liners 23a, by similar components of different sizes. A cooling period is automatically allowed at the ejection station, where three adjustably-positioned blocks 39 stop the die when the casting is ejected.
