Abstract

1354139 Continuous casting GORKOVSKY FILIAL TSENTRALNOGO NAUCHNO - ISSLEDOVATELSKOGO INSTITUTA METALLURGII I SVARKI 19 Oct 1971 48518/71 Heading B3F When an upright continuous casting mould is advanced during its reciprocation cycle, the casting is moved upward through the same distance but is stationary during at least part of the mould return movement. To prevent return of the casting, the cavity may be tapered or there may be a circular projection in the mould inlet end where it is supplied through a stationary feeding device. Alternatively, the casting is gripped, when the mould moves upward, to hold it or allow it to move down a distance less than the reciprocation amplitude. To modify the grain of the metal, the solidifying melt is subjected to a moving, e.g. rotating, magnetic field. For dividing off lengths of casting, the speed of the casting is increased by conventional withdrawal means to above the mould speed to tear apart the casting shell where the mould joins the feeding device. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,108,167.
