Abstract
A method for the continuous casting of a molten metal, which comprises arranging an open-ended continuous casting mold with generally vertical projection walls and introducing the molten metal into said mold below the upper surface of a molten metal deposit held in the same; characterized by: introducing a plurality of jets circumferentially spaced from said molten metal inside the foundry mold, said jets continuing to be oriented in such a way that a greater proportion of each one of said jets at the point of introduction into said tank comprises a outward and upward flowable component running directly in contact with a solidifying casting surface below the upper end of said casting mold and said jet contacting a larger circumferential portion of said surface before contacting said upper surface of said deposit; and imparting to said jet dynamic energy to drive said molten metal from said jets upon contacting said casting surface in a generally upward axial direction and in rubbing contact with at least the area of said casting surface in which the casting it initially solidifies and upon reaching said upper surface of said deposit make a sliding movement inward of said melted metal away from said mold walls.
