Abstract
1,239,261. Releasable fastenings. TEXTRON INDUSTRIES Inc. 28 Aug., 1968 [31 Aug., 1967], No. 41067/68. Heading E2B. [Also in Division F2] An apparatus for securing two members 3, 4 together, comprises an apertured plate 2 to be positioned adjacent one of the two members 4 with the aperture 5 in the plate aligned with an aperture in such one member; a bolt 6 to extend both through the aperture in such one member and also through the aperture in the plate with a free end region of the bolt extending proud of the plate; a bolt-engaging member 1 having an aperture to receive said end region of the bolt extending into the aperture to be held by the bolt-engaging member; and a flexible strip 7 of material having three apertures therein, a first and a second aperture being positioned one at each end region of the strip and the third aperture being located between the first and second apertures, the arrangement being such that the strip can be positioned around the plate with the boltengaging member positioned through each of the first and second apertures so that the strip retains the bolt-engaging member on the plate with the third aperture 9 in the strip aligned with the aperture in the bolt-engaging member the diameter of such third aperture being such that the portion of the strip around said third aperture will frictionally engage the bolt when the apparatus is assembled. As described the member 1 is a lock bolt collar and the plate 2 is a spur plate; the two members 3 and 4 are a side member and floor board of a railway wagon, the spur plate and collar when assembled together by means of the flexible strip are stated to facilitate assembly of the members 3 and 4 since one man can engage the spur plate and collar assembly with the bolt shank by pressing the assembly onto the bolt shank so that the hole 9 engages the shank, another man meanwhile holding the bolt in place. The first man can then operate a device to force the collar against the spur plate and secure it in place.
