Abstract

1,238,832. Swimming pools. E. T. L. REGEBRO and K. O. G. PETTERSSON. 13 Jan., 1969 [31 Jan., 1968], No. 1890/69. Heading A4N. A swimming pool is formed of lightweight elements and comprises a base, walls extending upwards from the base, a peripheral portion extending outwardly from the top of the walls, and means in the top surface of the peripheral portion for receiving splash-over water from the pool. The base 2, formed of elongated rectangular plates, rests on a base frame 1 which may be rectangular, consisting of lengths of inverted U-section beam with flanges. The walls are formed from sections 3, the majority of which are longer in the vertical direction than the horizontal, including parts (4), Fig. 2 (not shown), which are concave on the inner surface in horizontal cross-section, having vertical flanges (5) at the edges projecting away from the pool interior such that the flange width is equal to the camber height of the concave part (4). The peripheral top part includes a top frame 15 formed of lengths of pentagonal-section box-beam with a horizontal top side 16 and a side 7, inclined to the vertical, forming a top support for the sections 3. A frame 8 is placed around the pool on the surface 16 and consists of inverted U-shaped beams having a flat horizontal top 9 which is level with the water surface when the pool is filled. An angle support 10 is disposed around the frame 8 and extends to a point below the top 9. Similar frames 11 and 13 extend around the top of the pool parallel to and outwards of the frame 8, with top surfaces below that of frame 8. Between frames 8 and 11, and 11 and 13 are grids made, for example, of inverted U-section beams. Splash-over water may pass through the grids into sets of pipes 12 and 14 which may be connected to a purification plant. The frames 8, 11 and 13 and the grids may be provided with a non-slip top surface. The base of the pool may be provided with a discharge valve. The parts are assembled and sealed by welding, the exposed joints being ground smooth. At least the internal surface of the pool may be varnished or painted, for example with plastics paints. Decorative effects may be provided. The pool may be square, polygonal or round. The base 2 may be inclined to the horizontal to vary the water depth, or stepped with two or more stages. Trampolines, diving boards, ladders and steps may be provided. Water may be supplied to the pool via fountains located in or about the pool.
