Abstract

1,238,702. Plasma apparatus. KALLE A.G. 25 Sept., 1968 [28 Sept., 1967], No. 5801/71. Divided out of 1,238,701. Heading H5H. [Also in Division C7] A metal, e.g. steel or aluminium, foil 3 for use as a printing plate is cleaned and roughened by a plasma jet 5, whilst it is cooled, e.g. by coolant in a container 6 or by a cooled support. The plasma may be moved transversely of the foil. The foil 3 passes over contact rollers 2, 7, and beneath a series of tungsten electrodes 4, a series of arcs 5 being struck between electrodes 4 and the foil 3 in a protective argon atmosphere. Current is supplied through the rollers 2, 7, to the web or via the cooling medium in container 6, when this medium is conductive.
