Abstract

1,238,618. Two-part couplings. BUNKERRAMO CORP. 20 Jan., 1970 [28 Jan., 1969], No. 2680/70. Heading H2E. An electrical connector comprises a pair of shells 11, 12 a coupling ring 16 rotatably mounted on shell 11 and able to be threaded on shell 12 to move and hold the shells together, locking means 30 operative between the coupling ring 16 and shell 11 to prevent relative rotation thereof and a lock ring 44 rotatably mounted relative to the coupling ring to move the locking means 30 to the locking position. As shown coupling ring 16 comprises parts 17 and 18 secured together, flange 33 on part 18 bearing against wavy spring 23 which in turn bears against retaining ring 21 in annular groove 22 in shell 11. End portion 34 of part 18 is connected to flange 33 by portions 35 and 36 (see Fig. 2). Locking means 30 is fixed to the coupling ring by shoulders 39, 40 which engage part 36, and when the coupling ring has been screwed clockwise on to shell 12, rotation of lock ring 44 in the same direction causes pin 47 thereon to force teeth 41 on the end of locking means 30 on to the preferably serrated surface of a flange 42 on shell 11. Engagement of pin 47 with a recessed surface portion 51 on the locking means can be heard and felt and visual indication that the assembly is in the locked position is provided when projecting portions e.g. 54 on lock ring 44 are aligned with recesses e.g. 55 on ring 18.
