Abstract

1,238,078. Fusible interlinings. CARL FREUDENBERG. 12 Feb., 1969 [15 Feb., 1968], No. 7679/69. Heading B5N. [Also in Division B2] A laminate comprises a permeable unsized tissue of cellulose fibres predominantly less than 1 cm. long bonded to a permeable bonded non- woven fleece of fibres that are predominantly at least 1 cm. long and that includes polyvinyl alcohol fibres, e.g. in amounts of up to 20% wt., the bonding within the fleece and the bonding of the fleece to the tissue being achieved by the polyvinyl alcohol fibres. The laminate may be made by superposing the tissue and the fleece, soaking the assembly in water and drying on a felt calender at a sufficiently high temperature to soften the polyvinyl alcohol fibres. The laminate may be treated, e.g. with an aminoplast precondensate to render the polyvinyl alcohol fibres insoluble. The weight of both the tissue and the fleece is preferably less than 50 g./m.<SP>2</SP> and the weight of the laminate is preferably less than 75 g./m.<SP>2</SP> The laminate may be used in the manufacture of fusible interlinings having on at least one surface a discontinuous coating of heat-sensitive adhesive (see Division B2).
