Abstract

1,237,176. Filler caps. GENERAL MOTORS Ltd. 1 June, 1970 [5 June, 1969], No. 28540/69. Heading B8T. [Also in Division F2] A closure for the filler spout of a fluid container, e.g. a car radiator, has a cover plate 2 and a plastics body member 4. The closure is retained on the spout by tabs 3 engaging flanges on the spout. Flange 5 integral with the body member 4 acts as a seal against the end of the spout. A valve member 9 slides coaxially in body member 4, and is retained in it as a snap fit by flange 10. The valve member carries a sealing gasket 16 which engages with a seat on the container, the valve being biased to the closed position by spring 12. Excess pressure in the container causes valve 9 to open. A second valve 18 seals vent holes 19, but opens if the pressure in the container falls below atmospheric pressure.
