Abstract

123,605. Vickers, Ltd., and Robinson, S. March 5, 1918. Cutters for boring gun tubes, shafting, &c. from the solid are of plate-like form, with a series of stepped cutting edges D, and are detachably and loosely fitted in a slotted holder F, Fig. 7, and held by a screw G. The cutter may have four sides, as shown, in Fig. 8, and the nose B may be in one piece with the cutter, or detachable, and may be square with, or oblique to, the cutters. The plate-like sides preferably increase in thickness from nose to base, and the width of the successive steps may gradually decrease from nose to base. When using the four-sided cutter shown in Fig. 8, it is withdrawn after having entered the work, and a rounded washer J is inserted beneath the squared driving portion, which allows the cutter to be self-centring.
